Change to Meet the Candidates Night
April 22nd, 2009
We have a change to our “Meet the Candidates” night. Because we had a candidate who submitted his petition to run for the BOE and then withdrew his candidacy, it changed the time-lines we must follow. Legally we were then required to extend the period in which candidates could submit their petitions and run for the BOE. This means that we are still accepting petitions until May 5 at 5:00 pm. The rationale for an extension is that community members may have signed this individual’s petition to support his candidacy and potential candidates may have decided not to run based on his candidacy. The extension provides everyone an additional opportunity to submit a petition given this information.
For this reason, we are not hosting the “Meet the Candidates” night tonight as originally planned. Instead we will host it the night of the Public Hearing, May 12, immediately following the public hearing that begins at 6:30 pm. Questions for the candidates must be submitted in writing to the district clerk either prior to the evening of May 12 or may be written and submitted to the moderators as our guests enter. Each candidate will be given two minutes to answer each question and we will rotate the order; our PTA is sponsoring and moderating the event. Thank you PTA!
Please join us for an opportunity to hear more about what our candidates think and therefore be an informed voter. If you have any questions, please contact me either through this blog, email at kmoritz@rand.wnyric.org or by phone at 358-7005.
